Abstract

simple clean and healthy living behaviors suchas washing hands with soap is one way to increase public awareness about maintaining personal health and the importance of clean and healthy living behaviors. based on data from the Central Statistics Agency for 2018, it shows that the proportion of the population that has the correct hand washing habit according to the Jambi region in 2018 is around 47% (BPS, 2018). Behavior change can be changed with knowledge through counseling. Extension activities are carried out using picture cards and flipcharts. The purpose of this study was to find out the effectiveness of counseling using picture cards on increasing knowledge and behavior of hand washing with soap in students on SDN 31 Jambi City. The research design is a Quasi Experimental Design with a Nonequivalet Control Group Design research design with a total sample of 54 people. For the experimental group, 27 Respondents used picture cards and 27 respondents used flipcharts for the control group. Data collection techniques using questionnaires and observation. Data analysis using the Wilcoxon Test. The result of the analysis showed that counseling on hand washing with soap using picture cards was more effective in increasing knowledge and behavior of washing hands with soap in students, indicated by a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.05) compared to the flipchart.
